The beginning of Sony’s February 12 State of Play saw the start of a new journey for spirit guide Kena, marked by the announcement of a sequel to the charming 2021 action-adventure RPG Kena Bridge of Spirits, Kena Scars of Kosmora.
Developer Ember Lab, the same studio and talent behind Bridge of Spirits, is bringing life to the upcoming action-adventure title, which will follow spirit guide Kena as the main protagonist once more.
Grown up and in search of answers, she will travel to the island of Kosmora to understand the mysterious affliction she endures. It’s suggested that Kena will uncover buried secrets from a tragic past on the island, and in the process, perhaps some of her own.
Go forth, spirit guide
The beauty and scope of the trailer imply that Scars of Kosmora will be grander in scale, but the information revealed so far suggests it will be grander in narrative, too.
Co-founder of Ember Lab, Josh Grier, elaborated in an interview on the PlayStation blog:
“While we’d love to talk to you more about the story you’re going to experience, we’re very conscious of anything remotely spoiler-esque,” begins Grier.
“We’ve put a ton of effort into crafting the narrative for Scars of Kosmora,” he continues, “and the team is focused on creating an emotional and heartfelt adventure for returning players of Kena Bridge of Spirits and those new to Kena’s world.”
The story of Scars of Kosmora is still a mystery to us, but all signs point towards it shining some light on the biggest question: Who is Kena, really?
While telling the narrative more through visuals than dialogue worked in Bridge of Spirits’ favour, it shrouded the main protagonist, Kena, in a fitting level of mystery. This left many open questions, particularly surrounding Kenas’ glowing arm and its possible relation to her affliction, which this sequel could potentially answer in a way that’s just as graceful.
Given that the original Bridge of Spirits boasted a deeply moving story, we can anticipate Scars of Kosmora will also leave us with emotional scars. We keenly anticipate Kena Scars of Kosmora ahead of its 2026 release window for PS5 and PC.
