When it comes to complex power systems in shonen anime, the Spiritual Energy (Reiryoku), Spiritual Pressure (Reiatsu), and Spirit Particles (Reishi) in Bleach are often mentioned by most fans. Even a long-time shonen viewer would have a difficult time understanding the inner workings of the power system in Bleach due to how overly complex and confusing they are.
8 Best Power Systems In Modern Anime
Modern anime series have introduced new and original power systems. These stand out the most.
Surprisingly, several modern anime followed in the footsteps of Bleach, presenting equally, if not even more, complex power systems, from abilities rooted in words and language to powers tied to divinity, concepts, and reality itself. Breaking down these power systems in-depth for fellow fans would also require significant effort and, of course, explanation.

Supernatural Potions and Divine Pathways
Anime: Lord of Mysteries
Lord of Mysteries is one of the most well-received new-generation isekai anime of the past year. The series presents a unique and complex power system built around divine pathways and supernatural potions that either grant abilities or corrupt a person’s mind. It is also hierarchical and structured, allowing those with otherworldly abilities, known as Beyonders, to ascend through dangerous sequences or levels of power until one of them becomes the Great Old One.
The Beyonder system begins when a character drinks a mystical potion, gains abilities, and becomes a Beyonder, binding themselves to a specific pathway. There are 22 standard divine pathways on Earth, and each one contains 10 sequences or levels, with 9 as the weakest or the lowest and 0 as the strongest.

Tao or Life Force Energy
Anime: Hell’s Paradise
While Bleach uses spiritual power as the basis of its power system, Hell’s Paradise builds its abilities around life force energy or Tao. This mysterious energy is present everywhere, flowing through living and non-living beings in the series. To harness Tao in combat, one must unlock the Middle Way first, with the user balancing the two states of Tao, the yin and yang. Mastering Tao is a different story since it requires a user to complete the five training methods of immortality: Do’in, Taisoku, Shu’itsu, Shuten, and Bocho Jutsu.
To make it more interesting, Tao possesses five elemental attributes, which follow a cycle of restoration (Sosei) and hindering effects (Sokoku). Sosei restores a person’s Tao when two users with compatible elements come into contact. Sokoku is the exact opposite, as the user’s Tao drains and weakens when two users with incompatible elements clash.
Other rules may apply within this fascinating restoration and hindering cycle, as Hell’s Paradise also features hybrids, artificial beings, and certain humans who draw Tao from flowers rather than relying on their own life force.

Pyrokinetics and Spontaneous Human Combustion
Anime: Fire Force
Fire Force does a very good job of expanding the concept of pyrokinetics in highly creative ways. Nearly every character in the series wields unique flame-based abilities, with different inner workings and effects. For instance, Karim Flam can convert heat to ice through his trombone-like instrument while undergoing a process called “thermoacoustic refrigeration.”
Due to a mysterious phenomenon called “spontaneous human combustion,” Fire Force characters either awaken as Infernals or generational flame users. Infernals are considered threats to humanity and are classified into six distinct types. On the other hand, those who resist the phenomenon develop strong ignition abilities, with their powers varying according to their generation.
The rarest category is the Fourth Generation, which Shinra Kusakabe is a part of, as they have successfully awakened the Adolla Burst, also known as the Flames of Destruction, and are already connected to the Evangelist and the Woman in Black.

The Tower’s Shinsu
Anime: Tower of God
On the surface, the power system in Tower of God seems easy to understand. In reality, it is far more complex and layered, much like Bleach in its handling of spiritual energy, pressure, and power scaling. In Tower of God, the system is built around Shinsu, a mysterious substance exclusively generated within the Tower. It functions like air or oxygen, allowing the tower’s inhabitants to survive while also serving as the fundamental energy used for combat and abilities. It can be measured based on mass (Soo), units (Baang), and size (Myun); yet, the true properties of Shinsu remain unknown to this day.
Those who can manipulate Shinsu have the best chance of climbing to the very top of the tower. Shinsu manipulation is only possible when one is either an irregular like Baam, a contractor, or a special-item user. There are two types of Shinsu, natural and man-controlled, but in some cases, a manipulator can change the nature of their Shinsu through their organs.

Word Arts or Verbal Incantations
Anime: Ishura
Ishura is home to some of the most powerful and dangerous characters in anime, each one boasting godlike abilities perfect for combat. These characters share a collective goal of determining who is the strongest among them after the Demon King’s defeat, believing that it is only fitting for a single individual to stand at the top and rule the world.
While the premise makes Ishura seem like a battle royale anime, its power system is actually built around Word Arts, a form of magic where characters activate abilities and manifest extraordinary phenomena through special verbal incantations. There are various types of word arts, ranging from thermal, craft, life, force, and soul to more unique categories such as almighty and usurpation, each governed by its own specific rules.

Cursed Energy
Anime: Jujutsu Kaisen
It’s no secret that Jujutsu Kaisen’s power system is heavily inspired by Bleach, yet Gege Akutami refines those influences to create a more complex system built around cursed energy. To put it simply, cursed energy is the spiritual energy leaking from humanity’s negative emotions like fear, envy, and anger, to name a few. However, cursed energy can also manifest as cursed spirits or supernatural entities that are capable of harming humans.
Those who can weaponize their cursed energy in Jujutsu Kaisen either become jujutsu sorcerers or curse users. These users also unlock powerful cursed techniques, which are crucial in the war between the two factions. And as fans know, Jujutsu Kaisen also includes Binding Vows and Heavenly Restrictions, which add another layer of depth to its power system.

PakarPBN
A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.
In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.
The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
